Mohammed Kudus’ agent, Jen Mendelewitsch has revealed that despite agreeing to personal terms with Chelsea, the transfer to the Ghana winger didn’t happen due to a “ridiculous” offer from the Blues.
Kudus, who ultimately joined West Ham, was linked with several top clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain, as he left Ajax.
According to Jen Mendelewitsch, Chelsea offered approximately £17 million, a sum she considered unreasonable. The deal eventually fell through, with West Ham securing Kudus in a £38 million deal later in the transfer window.
Chelsea’s focus on the transfer of Moises Caicedo was cited as a reason for the failed deal with Kudus.
“We reached an agreement with Chelsea, we agreed the contract with Chelsea but the deal was not done,” she said.
“He talked with the coach but in the end it didn’t happen because Chelsea made a ridiculous offer to Ajax”
“There was no counter offer. Chelsea did this with lots of players this summer, making very low offers to clubs knowing that they would not be accepted”
“The truth is that they were completely focused on the transfer of Caicedo which took up all their energy.”
Mendelewitsch also addressed rumors about PSG’s interest in Kudus, stating that they offered his profile to PSG, but the club chose not to proceed, as they either had other priorities or didn’t need a midfielder.
“He wanted to leave but there weren’t 50,000 clubs that needed a midfielder and could afford him,” she continued.
“Obviously we offered his profile to PSG, then it was the club’s choice not to not move forward. Every club has the right to decide that they go to another profile or that it is not their priority.”
