Ghana international, Mohammed Kudus, was named the Man of the Match in Ajax’s win over Excelsior in the Dutch Eredivisie of Sunday, January 29.
AFC Ajax defeated Excelsior Rotterdam with ease thanks to Kudus’ seventh goal of the season, giving them their first Eredivisie victory of 2023.
In the round 19 match on Sunday afternoon at the Van Donge and De Roo Stadium in Rotterdam, the Dutch champions decisively defeated their opponent 4-1 to snap a seven-game losing streak.
Ajax took the lead in the 15th minute as captain Dusan Tadic converted a penalty kick to start the game’s scoring.
Redouan el Yaakoubi of Excelsior scored the equaliser in the 36th minute by converting a Couhaib Driouech cross.
Davy Klaasen’s goal just before the interval gave the Dutch powerhouses their advantage back.
After an hour had passed, the visitors’ score was increased by Kudus, whose powerful shot from the edge of the box beat goalkeeper Stijn van Gassel.
With seven minutes left, Devyne Rensch, an Ajax defender, sealed the victory after receiving a pass from Francisco Conceicao.
