Following Asamoah Gyan’s retirement from professional football after a remarkable career spanning nearly two decades, Ajax and Black Stars midfielder Mohammed Kudus expressed his heartfelt tribute to the iconic player.
Gyan announced his retirement during the Annual General Meeting of AfrixemBank on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. The 37-year-old has left an indelible mark on the national team throughout his illustrious career.
On Sunday, June 25, 2023, Kudus was honored as the 2023 Footballer of the Year at the Ghana Football Awards, an event graced by Asamoah Gyan who presented the award to him.
Kudus, triumphing over tough competition from Genk winger Joseph Paintsil and RC Lens star Abdul Samed Salis, took the opportunity to congratulate Gyan on his retirement.
During his speech, Kudus expressed, “I would like to use this opportunity to congratulate Baby Jet on his retirement, he’s being a big inspiration to me and all my guys over here. I wish him all the best”
Asamoah Gyan holds an impressive record of 51 goals, making him the highest-scoring Ghanaian player in history. Additionally, he is the second most-capped player for the national team.
Gyan also holds the distinction of being the highest-scoring African player in World Cup history, having netted 6 goals in the tournament.
