Mohammed Salisu: ‘A stalwart defender needed by Ghana to stop’ Potent’ Nigeria attack in World Cup play-offs

Ghanaian defender, Mohammed Salisu could be all that the Black Stars need to stop the potent Super Eagles of Nigeria attack when the teams meet in March.

The Southampton player has in recent months rejected Ghana call-ups but could be the man to lift the Stars to the next level.

As a defender, Salisu is the player with most interceptions in the 2021-22 English Premier League season for the St Mary’s side.

Salisu produced a masterclass performance in his side’s 1-1 stalemate against Champions and leaders Manchester City on Saturday evening.

Mohammed Salisu made more tackles (7), more blocks (3), more interceptions (4) and made more clearances (14) than any other player against Manchester City.

Salisu previously played in the Spanish La Liga with Real Valladolid before his move to the Saints in club.

After his earlier struggle in his first year at the club, the defender has gradually become a very important part of the Red and Whites outfit this campaign.

With Ghana’s fragile defense and conceding in all three games in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon which saw the Stars exiting the tournament in the group stage, Salisu would bring a lot of stability at the back which would propel Ghana to overcome  their bitterest rival to book their place in Qatar.
