Major League Soccer in America top referee Ismail Elfath, has been appointed to officiate Ghana’s opening 2022 World Cup clash with Portugal of on Thursday night.
The top referee is one of the 28 referees making their debut in the world championship being played in the Asian state of Qatar.
He will be assisted on the lines by fellow Americans Kyle Atkins and Corey Parker, with French official Stephanie Frappart taking the duties of fourth official.
Armando Villarreal will be the video referee.
Elfath has no previous offociating record with the two senior national teams playing in football’s showpiece event.
Ghana will start their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign with a game against European giant Portugal on November 24 at Stadium 974 in Doha.
Four days later, the Black Stars return to action with a clash against the Asian powerhouse South Korea at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan.
The Black Stars who are making their fourth FIFA appearance will end their group stage campaign with a clash against Uruguay at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah.
