Ghanaian midfielder Musah Mohammed has opened up about a missed opportunity to join Turkish giants Besiktas early in his career, revealing that the transfer collapsed due to financial disagreements between the club and his agent.
In an interview with Joy Sports, the 23-year-old recounted how the incident happened during his teenage years, as he was working to establish himself in Turkish football.
“The trials at Fenerbahce were kind of difficult, but for Besiktas, it was successful. They liked me, but, you know, there was some misunderstanding between the club and my agent,” Mohammed explained.
He admitted that the failed move was disappointing, especially given the stature of the club.
“I was kind of a little bit down because such a big club, if they like you, I think it’s a good thing. But what can I do? Nothing—because that was the beginning of my career, so I just let everything pass.”
Born in Nkawkaw, Ghana, Musah Mohammed began his football journey with Bectero, a local lower-tier team. He later moved to Turkey, where he launched his professional career with Ankaraspor. He went on to play for Eyüpspor before joining his current club, Bodrum FK.
During the 2023/24 Turkish Süper Lig season, Mohammed was a standout performer for Bodrum, making 25 appearances and recording four assists. His commanding midfield displays have earned him growing attention, and he continues to develop into one of Ghana’s promising exports in European football.
