Charles Kwablan Akonnor has confirmed that his older son, Charles-Jesaja Herrman, is eager to play for the Black Stars, expressing his willingness to represent Ghana despite having played for Germany at the under-17 level.
The former Black Stars captain and coach shared that Jesaja, currently playing for a third-division side, aspires to follow in his father’s footsteps and be part of the Ghanaian national team in the future.
”The older one was also a national team player, who played in the under-17, and he is now playing for a third-division side. He is now willing to play for the Black Stars when he gets the chance,” Akonnor stated.
However, Akonnor acknowledged the challenges his son might face in securing a call-up to the Black Stars, given his current status in the lower-tier league. He advised Jesaja to put in more effort, emphasizing that making waves in the premier league would enhance his chances of being noticed as a potential national team player.
“I told him to do more than he is doing now. For the national team, you don’t have to be in the third division; you have to be in the premier and make waves for yourself to be seen as a national team player; but for now, he is a little bit far from the national team.”
Herrmann has also represented Germany at various youth levels, including the U-15, U-16, U-18, and U-19 teams.
He currently plays for German 3. Liga club Waldhof Mannheim. He has scored three goals and provided two assists in 16 games played this season.
