Nations FC defender Razak Simpson is eager to earn a recall to the Black Stars squad ahead of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers this month.
Simpson, who received his first senior national team call-up during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, impressed despite Ghana’s struggles in the final round of matches against Angola and Niger. With the World Cup qualifiers set to resume, the promising center-back is hoping to be included in Otto Addo’s squad.
Reflecting on his debut, Simpson admitted that representing Ghana came with pressure but credited the Black Stars coach for boosting his confidence.
“When I wore the shirt, it became heavy on me, but I reminded myself that this is what I chose to do. So I had to put everything aside and play,” he told 3Sports’ GPL Xpress.
“Personally, he [Otto Addo] gave me the encouragement and everything. He said a lot of things to me, like I can do it—if not, I wouldn’t have been there.
“I’m expecting another call-up, and hopefully, we will see,” he added.
Ghana will resume their World Cup qualifying campaign against Chad on Friday, March 21, at the Accra Sports Stadium at 19:00 GMT. They will then travel to Morocco to face Madagascar at the Grand Stade d’Al Hoceima on Monday, March 24.
The Black Stars currently sit second in Group I with nine points from four matches.
