Asante Kotoko’s newest midfield recruit, Hubert Gyau, has drawn comparisons between his playing style and that of Paris Saint-Germain and Portugal star Vitinha, following his official signing with the Porcupine Warriors.
The 20-year-old completed his transfer from Berekum Chelsea on Tuesday, joining Kotoko after a breakout 2024/25 season in which he established himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in the Ghana Premier League.
Gyau made his top-flight debut at 18, featuring in 12 matches during the 2023/24 season. He followed that up with an impressive 27 appearances in the recently concluded campaign, earning praise for his consistency, maturity, and tactical intelligence.
Speaking to the club’s media team, Gyau said he sees similarities between himself and PSG midfielder Vitinha, who has gained recognition as one of Europe’s top midfield talents.
“I see my style of play akin to that of PSG’s Vitinha,” Gyau said. “I will plead with the fans to keep supporting, and I will also do my best for the team.”
Renowned for his composure on the ball and sharp tactical awareness, Gyau is expected to bring depth and creativity to Kotoko’s midfield as they prepare for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season and CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
The talented youngster is scheduled to report for pre-season training in Kumasi later this month, as Kotoko continue building a squad capable of competing for major honours.
