The Super Eagles were ranked 28th in February in the world after moving 14 places higher due to their wonderful performances in the AFCON 2023. They were 3rd in February in Africa but have moved two places backwards to 30th in the world rankings and are still 3rd in Africa in the latest rankings.
Nigeria after the runner-up finish in the 2023 AFCON moved pretty well on the rankings due to the 5 wins in the tournament. The 3rd place occupied by Nigeria on the continent represents a significant improvement in the team in the last 4 months as the Super Eagles were horrible before the commencement of the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
Nigeria recently defeated Ghana 2-1 in Morocco and lost 2-0 to Mali in the international break. The Super Eagles resume action in June with a tough fixture against Bafana Bafana of South Africa in MD3 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Many Nigerians will be glad to see the team ranked 30th in the world as they had little hope in the team at the beginning of the year.
