Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have made history by becoming the first African country to reach the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup following a 3-1 victory over Brazil in Wednesday’s semi-final in Morocco.
The Flamingos delivered an impressive second-half performance at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, with Queen Joseph opening the scoring in the 56th minute after receiving a pass from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi.
Awawu Bashiru extended Nigeria’s lead in the 71st minute before completing her brace nine minutes later, with Oluebube Umejiaku providing the assist for the second goal. Brazil pulled one back through Greise Kelly in the 89th minute, but Nigeria held on to secure a historic victory.
The result sends Nigeria into their first-ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final, where they will face Japan on Saturday, November 7, 2026.
Japan secured their place in the final after defeating defending champions North Korea 4-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
Coach Akeem Busari and his players will now target another historic achievement by becoming the first African nation to win the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
