Eddie Nketiah, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ghanaian musician King Promise have become the focus of fresh discussion following claims that the two English-born footballers showed interest in playing for Ghana long before the Black Stars qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

King Promise has disclosed that both players, who are of Ghanaian descent, had genuine intentions of representing the national team several years ago. According to him, their interest was not influenced by Ghana’s recent qualification for the World Cup, as widely speculated in some quarters.

The award-winning artist, who shares a close friendship with the players, especially Callum Hudson-Odoi, explained that he often encouraged them to consider Ghana whenever discussions came up. He stated that Eddie Nketiah has a strong love for the country and had openly expressed his desire to wear the Black Stars jersey, while Hudson-Odoi also showed similar interest.

King Promise clarified that his role was limited to friendly conversations and encouragement, noting that official decisions involving nationality switches involve more complex processes beyond personal influence.

His comments come at a time when reports suggested that the two players only showed interest in Ghana after World Cup qualification was secured. Those claims triggered public debate, with some fans questioning whether players who did not feature in the qualifiers should be considered for selection.

The latest revelation adds a new perspective to the ongoing discussion, suggesting that interest from Eddie Nketiah and Callum Hudson-Odoi dates back well before Ghana booked its place at the global showpiece.
