Dreams FC have emerged as Ghana’s highest-ranked club in the latest CAF club rankings ahead of the 2026/27 season, surpassing traditional giants Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, who are absent from the continental list.
The “Still Believe” side occupies the 32nd position in Africa following their impressive performances in CAF inter-club competitions, particularly their remarkable run in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Dreams FC’s rise represents a significant milestone for the club, which has quickly established itself as one of Ghana’s strongest representatives on the continental stage. Their historic Confederation Cup campaign, where they competed against some of Africa’s top clubs, earned them valuable ranking points and increased their reputation across the continent.
The latest rankings place Dreams FC ahead of Ghana’s two most decorated clubs, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, who failed to secure positions on the current CAF list.
Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko boast rich histories in African football, with Kotoko winning the CAF Champions League twice and Hearts of Oak lifting the same trophy in 2000. However, inconsistent performances in recent years, both domestically and in CAF competitions, have affected their continental standing.
Medeama SC are the other Ghanaian club featured in the rankings, occupying the 54th position after representing the country in CAF competitions and maintaining a presence on the African stage.
The rankings highlight the changing dynamics of Ghanaian club football, with emerging teams like Dreams FC making notable progress while established giants continue efforts to restore their former dominance.
At the top of the African rankings, South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns lead with 73 points, replacing Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly SC, who sit second with 66 points. Espérance Sportive de Tunis, RS Berkane and USM Alger complete the top five.
For Ghana, Dreams FC’s ranking provides a positive indication of the progress being made by emerging clubs and reinforces the importance of consistent participation in CAF competitions.
With Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko missing from the latest rankings, Dreams FC and Medeama SC currently carry Ghana’s hopes on the continental club football ranking table.
