Top Ghanaian sports journalist, Gary Al- Smith has shared his opinion on the Ghana Football Association’s decision to camp in South Africa ahead of the African Cup of Nations.
The football association in a bizarre decision have opted to travel to South Africa for camping ahead of a tournament which is scheduled to be played on the western border country of Ghana.
The camping schedule has been defined as lucrative business rather than sporting reasons. Ironically the Football Association flew to Abu Dhabi in 2013 when the AFCON was hosted by the South Africans. The move at time was considered as very unwise as Abu Dhabi was very hot and South Africa in the cold at the time.
“It is as if there is no wish to truly bring back the love of the people. There has been a loud clamour for a modest pre-AFCON camp, but no, Ghana will fly to South Africa, and come back to West Africa.
And we wonder why people can’t feel a connection to the team any longer” Gary wrote on Twitter
Namibia will be coming to Ghana in camp ahead of the tournament to acclimatize to the weather whereas Ghana have adopted a different country with different weather conditions pertaining to the one in Ivory Coast.
