Asante Kotoko Sporting Club have officially parted ways with head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, the club confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.
The decision was reached amicably following constructive discussions between both parties, with a mutual understanding that a change in leadership was necessary for the club’s progress at this stage of the season.
Ogum’s tenure with the Porcupine Warriors brought both triumph and turbulence. His standout achievement came during the 2021/22 season when he guided the club to their first Ghana Premier League title in nearly a decade. However, recent results in the ongoing campaign have sparked concerns over the team’s form and consistency.
Speculation around his future intensified after Kotoko suffered successive defeats to Accra Lions and Nations FC, a run that has seen them drop from title contention to fourth on the league table. Despite a promising start to the season, the team has struggled to maintain momentum in the latter stages.
This season, Kotoko have amassed 13 wins, 8 draws, and 7 losses in 28 matches, scoring 28 goals and conceding 21—averaging 1.68 points per game.
In a statement, the club expressed gratitude to Coach Ogum for his commitment and contributions, wishing him success in his future endeavors. Kotoko also called on fans to remain calm and supportive as the club navigates this transitional period.
Further announcements regarding the technical direction of the team are expected soon.
Asante Kotoko will return to action next weekend with a crucial clash against Aduana Stars in the Ghana Premier League.
