Hearts of Oak have appointed former Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Kingson as the club’s new goalkeeping coach as the Phobians continue their rebuilding plans ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
The appointment forms part of Hearts’ efforts to restore their status among Ghana’s top clubs following two consecutive trophyless campaigns. The club has already appointed Serbian coach Nebojsa Kapor as head coach as they prepare for a new chapter.
Hearts officially announced Kingson’s return on Monday, describing the move as a homecoming for one of Ghana football’s most respected figures.
“A legend returns. From guarding the post to grooming the next generation. Welcome home, Richard Kingson, our new Goalkeepers’ Coach.”
The former Ghana international, despite having played for Hearts’ rivals during his career, has maintained a strong connection with the club and accepted the opportunity to contribute to the development of the next generation of goalkeepers.
Kingson brings a wealth of experience to the Hearts technical team following a distinguished playing career that saw him become one of Ghana’s most celebrated goalkeepers.
The 47-year-old earned more than 90 caps for Ghana and represented the Black Stars at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups. He played a key role during Ghana’s historic run to the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and also featured in several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
At club level, Kingson built an impressive career across Europe, featuring for teams in Turkey, Sweden, England and Cyprus, where he gained valuable experience competing at different levels.
He now joins coach Nebojsa Kapor’s technical team as Hearts of Oak look to build a stronger squad capable of challenging for major honours and returning to the top of Ghanaian football.
The appointment of Kingson is expected to add leadership, technical knowledge and elite-level experience to the Phobians’ goalkeeping department as the club enters a new era.
