Ipswich Town have announced the signing of winger Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City.
Abdul, 22, joins Town for an undisclosed fee and has signed a five-year contract, through to the summer of 2031.
The attacker featured in all four of Ghana’s games at this summer’s FIFA World Cup, including against England in the group stage, and has won a total of 32 caps for his country, scoring three goals.
During his career he has played in the Champions League during his time with Sporting in Portugal and has been promoted to and featured in the Premier League with Leicester, before scoring nine goals in 44 appearances for the Foxes during 2025/26.
After signing for Town, he will join up with his new teammates at the Blues’ Spanish training camp in La Manga this week.
“I am proud to have signed for Ipswich Town,” Abdul said.
“The ambition the club has is very exciting and I’m looking forward to being a part of that as we prepare for the Premier League season. After speaking to the manager (Gary O’Neil), I know what the expectation is and I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates and starting work.
“I have played against Ipswich a few times during my time in England and I know how passionate the supporters are for the club, so I’m excited to play for them and show them what I can do.”
Town Manager Gary O’Neil said: “Abdul is a young player who has already gained good experience in the game and we’re excited to have him with us.
“He has strong physical and technical attributes, is comfortable on the ball and can test the opposition in one-on-one situations, so will provide us with good options within the squad.
“Having represented his country at the World Cup this summer, I know he is now looking forward to getting to work ahead of the Premier League season.”
Born in Tamale, Ghana, Abdul began his career in his home city with Steadfast, before earning a loan move to Ghanaian Premier Division side Dreams FC in October 2021.
His form saw him join Sporting in Portugal the following year, where he gained his first experience of football in Europe while also featuring in the Champions League.
He joined Leicester on loan for the 2023/24 season and played a central role as the Foxes won the Sky Bet Championship to win promotion to the Premier League, alongside Town, winning the club’s Young Player of the Year award. He featured 11 times in the top-flight during a 2024/25 campaign interrupted by injury, before netting nine goals last season.
At international level, Abdul was named Player of the Tournament as he helped Ghana win the U20 Africa Cup of Nations in March 2021, with a senior debut following later that year.
He was part of the Ghana squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, featuring once, before playing in all four of his country’s games in North America this summer.
