FC Samartex 1996, a team in the Ghana Premier League, has officially announced the departure of their head coach, Annor Walker, effective immediately, after just one season in charge.
Walker, a veteran Ghanaian coach, joined Samartex ahead of the 2022/23 football season, signing a two-year contract after leaving Great Olympics.
Under Walker’s guidance, the Timber Boys finished their debut campaign in 10th place with 46 points from 34 matches.
The team secured 12 wins, 10 draws, and 12 losses, scoring 28 goals and conceding 29 in the process.
In a statement posted on Twitter on Friday morning, the club expressed:
“The Management of FC Samartex and Coach Annor Walker have agreed to part ways on mutual grounds. “
“We thank Mr Annor for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors.
“In the coming days, we shall provide information on the future direction of the….”
The 62-year-old coach previously led Ghana’s team in the 2022 CHAN tournament held in Algeria, where they reached the quarter-finals but were defeated by Niger.
Reports in the media indicate that Walker is in advanced negotiations for a move to Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak ahead of the 2023-24 season.
It is rumored that he is close to signing a two-year deal with the Phobians.
