Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, secured his inaugural win in his return as head coach of the Ghana Black Stars.
The triumph came as his team rallied from behind to claim a 2-1 victory against Mali on Thursday night, in their third 2026 World Cup qualifier clash at the 26th March Stadium in Bamako.
Mali initially seized the lead through Kamory Doumbia in the first minute of first-half stoppage time, benefiting from an unexpected rebound off him following an attempted clearance. However, Ernest Nuamah equalized just two minutes before the hour mark, capitalizing on a precise cross from Salis Abdul Samed.
Jordan Ayew, introduced as a substitute with barely five minutes remaining, sealed the win in the 94th minute, propelling Ghana to second place in Group I.
Addo’s return to the helm began with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in March, followed by a 2-2 draw against Uganda. Notably, during his initial tenure, Addo guided Ghana to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, prevailing over Nigeria in the playoff stage.
