Ghana head coach Otto Addo expressed satisfaction with his team’s second-half effort despite a 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in the semi-final of the 2025 Unity Cup, played on Wednesday night at the GTech Community Stadium in London.
The Black Stars found themselves trailing at halftime following a clinical strike from Cyriel Dessers and an unfortunate own goal by defender Razak Simpson. However, Ghana produced a much-improved display after the break, with substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante pulling a goal back in the 70th minute through a well-struck volley.
At the post-match briefing, Addo praised his side’s response in the second half, noting the progress made by some of the younger players in the squad.
Despite missing several regular starters, the coach opted to field a balanced lineup that included debutants and fringe players, using the game as an opportunity to test depth ahead of future assignments. Though the loss ended Ghana’s hopes of reaching the final, Addo believes the second-half performance offers encouraging signs as preparations continue for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana will now take on Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place playoff on Saturday, while Nigeria move on to face Jamaica in the final.
