Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has called on Black Stars head coach Otto Addo to extend his scouting efforts across the Ghana Premier League to uncover more local talents.
His appeal comes in the wake of Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare’s impressive performances in Ghana’s recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar. The 32-year-old, who earned his first call-up in March, was selected ahead of Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott, delivering back-to-back clean sheets in Ghana’s victories.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe emphasized that Ghana’s past Africa Cup of Nations successes were heavily influenced by home-based players and urged the GFA to support Otto Addo in scouting extensively within the local league.
“If the coach limits his visits only to Accra and Kumasi stadia, he might not spot the required talents,” he said.
“He [Otto Addo] must spread his tentacles by visiting every nook and cranny of the country to identify promising players,” he added.
Asare’s strong performances have now positioned him as a key contender for Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper role ahead of upcoming qualifiers.
The Black Stars will return to action in June, facing Chad away before hosting Mali in Matchday 7 and 8 of the World Cup qualifying campaign.
