Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has revealed that the club’s ambition is to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League after winning the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title.
The Yellow and Mauve will represent Ghana in Africa’s premier club competition after clinching the domestic league crown and are determined to make a strong impression on the continental stage.
Medeama have been handed a difficult preliminary round tie against DR Congo giants TP Mazembe, with the Ghanaian champions facing one of Africa’s most experienced clubs for a place in the next phase of the competition.
Despite the challenge, Tanko believes Medeama have the quality and determination to compete and has set a clear target for the team.
“We’ll take it game by game, but our target this time is to go beyond the group stage of the CAF Champions League,” Tanko told Asempa FM.
Medeama will host TP Mazembe in the first leg at the TNA Park on September 5, before travelling to the Democratic Republic of Congo for the return fixture on September 13. Both matches are scheduled for 15:00 GMT.
The Tarkwa-based club will hope to use home advantage to secure a positive result before facing the Congolese giants in the decisive second leg.
Having previously gained experience in CAF competitions, Medeama are aiming to build on their league success and establish themselves among Africa’s top clubs.
