Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has reaffirmed the club’s determination to secure the Ghana Premier League title, emphasizing that winning the league is their primary objective.
Currently sixth on the table with 19 points from 12 matches, the Phobians are just four points behind league leaders Bibiani GoldStars, who have amassed 23 points. Despite a slow start to the season, Hearts of Oak have regained form and are now firmly in the title race.
“The teams competing to win the Ghana Premier League are many—Bibiani GoldStars, Nations FC, Medeama, Heart of Lions, Hearts of Oak, and Asante Kotoko are all in the fight,” Ouattara said in an interview with Original FM.
When asked about their title aspirations, Ouattara responded with an analogy: “Let me ask you a question: if you enroll in secondary school, what is your target?” The interviewer replied, “To pass.”
Ouattara then elaborated, “If you say it’s not your target to win the league, why are you playing? We are competing for the title. If it happens, it won’t be a surprise; if it doesn’t, it won’t be a surprise either.”
Hearts of Oak’s ambition will face a stern test on December 15, 2024, when they clash with fierce rivals Asante Kotoko in the first Super Clash of the season. The much-anticipated encounter promises to be a pivotal moment in the title race.
