Panama head coach Thomas Christiansen Tarín has entered the race for the vacant Ghana national team coaching position, according to GHANAsoccernet.com.
The Danish-Spanish tactician has expressed interest in taking charge of the Black Stars as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) continues its search for a new head coach.
Christiansen is among a growing list of local and foreign coaches linked with the role following the departure of Carlos Queiroz, who left his position after Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The 53-year-old has first-hand knowledge of Ghana’s qualities after facing the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His Panama side suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Ghana in a tightly contested encounter.
That experience could prove valuable as the GFA assesses potential candidates, with the next Black Stars coach expected to lead the team through a crucial period of international competitions and qualifiers.
Christiansen has accumulated coaching experience across Europe and internationally, having managed clubs including AEK Larnaca and APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus, as well as English Championship side Leeds United.
He also had a spell in charge of Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise between July 2019 and May 2020 before taking on international assignments.
The former Barcelona B player has developed a reputation as a tactically adaptable coach capable of building organised and competitive teams.
His recent work with Panama has strengthened his profile, having guided the Central American nation through major international competitions and gained experience at the highest level.
A potential appointment, however, would depend on negotiations with the Panamanian Football Federation and the outcome of Ghana’s selection process.
The GFA and the Ghana Government’s joint five-member search committee are currently reviewing applications before making a recommendation for the next Black Stars coach.
The successful candidate will inherit a team with high expectations from supporters and the responsibility of restoring confidence after recent setbacks.
