Hearts of Oak defender Kelvin Osei Asibey has expressed confidence that he can earn a call-up to the Ghana senior national team, insisting that he remains focused on improving his game and waiting for the right opportunity.
The promising defender believes his performances for the Phobians will eventually put him in contention for a place in the Black Stars squad, adding that national team selection comes at the right time for every player.
Speaking about his ambition to represent Ghana, Asibey said he remains available to serve the nation whenever his opportunity arrives.
“We call something time and seasons. When it’s your time, nobody can stop you. As long as I am a citizen of the Republic of Ghana, I think I qualify to play for the Black Stars,” he said.
“So when the time and the nation needs my service, I will come and serve the nation because maybe it could be my season and not my time, and it could be my time and not my season.”
The Hearts of Oak defender explained that his immediate priority is performing consistently for the club, believing strong displays in the Ghana Premier League will increase his chances of being noticed by the national team handlers.
“I am focused on my work 100% because Accra Hearts of Oak is the club I am playing for. Black Stars will see me through Accra Hearts of Oak,” he added.
Asibey further pledged to continue working hard and remain prepared for any national team opportunity that comes his way.
“I will keep on doing my best and when it’s my time and the nation needs my service, I will come and serve the nation.”
The defender has been a key figure in Hearts of Oak’s squad and will hope his continued progress with the Phobians can earn him recognition at the international level.
