Newly appointed Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz has sent a strong message to the Black Stars squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that no individual will be allowed to place personal ambition above the national team.
The veteran Portuguese tactician, who replaced Otto Addo last month on a short-term deal, is preparing to guide Ghana into this summer’s global tournament in North America.
Speaking on the Beyond The Whistle podcast, the former Real Madrid manager stressed the importance of discipline, unity, and sacrifice within the team as Ghana gears up for its fifth World Cup appearance.
“Nobody will be above the team,” he declared.
“Everybody must play with only one thing in mind — Ghana, the pride of the nation and the happiness of the people,” the experienced coach added.
Queiroz, who has previously managed countries including Egypt, Iran, and Colombia, faces the task of leading the four-time African champions through a challenging Group L campaign against Panama, England, and Croatia.
The Black Stars will open their World Cup journey against Panama on June 17 before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
As part of preparations for the tournament, Ghana is also scheduled to play international friendlies against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.
Queiroz is expected to announce his final squad for the World Cup on June 1 as anticipation continues to build among Ghanaian football fans.
