New Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz says plans are already underway to closely monitor and evaluate home-based players as Ghana intensifies preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The experienced Portuguese trainer disclosed that a special observation programme has been introduced to help him quickly familiarize himself with the Ghana Premier League and identify outstanding local talents ahead of the global tournament.
Players from the domestic league have found it difficult in recent years to cement places in the senior national team, but Queiroz believes the new system will provide him with a clearer understanding of the country’s football structure and available talent.
Speaking on the Beyond The Whistle podcast, the former Real Madrid manager explained that the initiative was developed with support from the Ghana Football Association.
“I went deeper to know some of the local players,” he noted.
“We put this programme in place so I could see the best players and understand local football much faster,” Queiroz added.
The four-time African champions will compete at their fifth FIFA World Cup this summer, with matches set to be played across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ghana has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
As part of their preparations, Queiroz’s men are also scheduled to play friendly matches against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.
