Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz says the Black Stars must improve their preparation and organisation ahead of their next matches after suffering a second straight defeat in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Ghana threw away a two-goal lead before losing 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, leaving the four-time African champions without a point from their opening two Group C matches.
The setback came just four days after Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké in their opening qualifying fixture.
The Black Stars appeared to be in control after taking a 2-0 lead against The Gambia, but they were unable to maintain their advantage as the visitors mounted a strong second-half comeback to secure all three points.
Queiroz does not believe the result should be viewed as a backward step, instead insisting that Ghana must learn from the defeat and prepare properly for the matches ahead.
“We cannot say it is a step back. What we can do is to be better prepared, better organised for the next games and win the next games. This is what we have to get done,” he said after the game.
The defeat has left Ghana at the bottom of Group C without a point, putting increased pressure on the team to collect maximum points in their upcoming fixtures.
The Black Stars are scheduled to return to action in October for a double-header against Somalia at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the team aiming to revive its qualification campaign.
Ghana are seeking to return to the Africa Cup of Nations after failing to qualify for the 2025 edition in Morocco.
