Ghanaian midfielder Rahim Ibrahim opened his goal account for FK Slovan Bratislava with a crucial strike in their 3-2 derby victory against FC Spartak Trnava in the Slovak Super Liga on Saturday.
Ibrahim, who made the switch from AS Trencin to Slovan during the winter transfer window, found the back of the net in added time of the first half to help his side claim a valuable win at the City Arena Trnava.
The home side started strongly and broke the deadlock just eight minutes into the match, courtesy of Czech midfielder Milos Kratochvil.
Slovan responded shortly after the half-hour mark when Croatian midfielder Marko Tolic converted from the penalty spot to level the score.
Ibrahim then stepped up in first-half stoppage time, firing Slovan into the lead. It was a moment of redemption for the Ghanaian, whose earlier goal in the 29th minute had been ruled out following a VAR check.
Slovan extended their lead in the 60th minute through Slovak international striker David Strelec. However, the hosts pulled one back just five minutes later when Croatian defender Roko Jureskin scored to set up a tense finish.
The derby also featured two more Ghanaian players. Sharani Zuberu came on as a second-half substitute for Slovan, while Kelvin Ofori played the full 90 minutes for Trnava.
Former Accra Lions midfielder Rahim Ibrahim has now made eight appearances for Slovan Bratislava, registering one goal and one assist since his arrival.
