Dr. Randy Abbey, a prominent Executive Committee Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), is reportedly the frontrunner for the position of Minister for Youth and Sports, according to Nkrataasem.com.
The accomplished football administrator and bankroller of Ghana Premier League side Heart of Lions has long been a key figure in the development of football in the country. His extensive experience and dedication to sports administration have made him a strong candidate for the ministerial role.
Sources indicate that Dr. Abbey, a close confidant of Ibrahim Mahama, the brother of President-Elect John Dramani Mahama, is highly favored for the appointment.
Adding to the speculation, Dr. Abbey recently announced his resignation as the Managing Director of Ignite Media Group, the parent company of Metro TV, Original FM, and Original TV. He will also step down as the host of the popular morning show, Good Morning Ghana, effective December 31, 2024.
Dr. Randy Abbey’s contributions to Ghanaian football are well-documented. Since his election to the GFA Executive Committee in 2019, he has held several pivotal roles, including serving as Chairman of the Black Satellites and Black Meteors Management Committees.
