Heart of Lions forward Kwadwo Obeng Junior has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to club president Dr. Randy Abbey for believing in his talent during a difficult time in his career when he became surplus to requirements at his former club, Hearts of Oak.
This expression of thanks comes on the heels of Obeng Junior’s standout performance against Asante Kotoko, where he scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory. The former Hearts of Oak striker found the net in the 28th minute after a mistake by Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara, who poorly cleared the ball, allowing it to fall directly into the path of Obeng Junior.
His impactful display not only secured a crucial win for Heart of Lions but also earned him the Man of the Match accolade. Following the match, Obeng Junior dedicated his award to Dr. Abbey, acknowledging the president’s faith in him at a time when others had turned him away. “I thank the management of Heart of Lions and dedicate my award to Dr. Randy Abbey. When I was rejected by some people, he saw the good in me and gave me a chance in their team,” he stated.
Furthermore, he praised coach Bashiru Hayford for his guidance and support, which has contributed significantly to his development as a player.
This goal marks Obeng Junior’s first of the season and has propelled Heart of Lions to sixth place in the league standings with 14 points. The team will aim to maintain this positive momentum as they prepare for their upcoming match against Berekum Chelsea.
