The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is currently in negotiations to appoint a German coach as a Technical Advisor to the Black Stars’ head coach, Otto Addo.
According to reports from Kumasi-based Pure FM, discussions have progressed, and the two parties are now focusing on payment terms. The prospective coach is reportedly seeking a salary of $80,000 per month, while the GFA is prepared to offer $60,000.
Ace sports journalist Bright Kankam Boadu has indicated that negotiations are ongoing as the GFA seeks to secure an experienced figure to support Addo. GhanaWeb previously reported that the GFA was actively searching for a qualified coach to assist the Black Stars.
Additionally, Asempa FM noted that GFA President Kurt Okraku met with a German coach during a recent visit to Germany, aiming to integrate him into the Black Stars’ technical staff. Although Otto Addo is not expected to be dismissed, the new German coach is anticipated to play a significant role due to his higher level of experience.
There appears to be a consensus within the GFA that qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is unlikely for the Black Stars. Nevertheless, significant efforts will be made to ensure the team qualifies for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Mexico, Canada, and the USA.
While the GFA intends to retain Addo as head coach, there is a possibility that he could be relieved of his duties if the Black Stars fail to qualify for the upcoming World Cup.
Addo’s future has become a topic of concern following the team’s dismal performance in the ongoing AFCON qualifiers, where the Black Stars have not yet secured a victory in four matches, recording two draws and two losses. Ghana suffered a defeat to Angola at home and lost to Sudan away on October 15, 2024, in Libya, after previously drawing with Sudan and Niger.
Currently, Ghana sits third in their group, with only two points, while Angola leads with ten points, and Sudan holds second place with seven points.
