Retired Ghanaian footballer Ransford Osei, 32, has made a serious allegation against renowned sports journalist Fred Acheampong.
Ransford Osei caught the eyes of the football world after finishing second to Macauley Chrisantus of Nigeria when he scored 7 goals in the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Ransford Osei had trials with Manchester City and was once monitored by Real Madrid.
In an interview, Ransford Osei revealed that he was once forced by Fred Acheampong of Kessbem 93.3 FM to pay a bribe after receiving a call-up to the Black Stars.
The formal goal poacher said,
“I quite remember when Atta Mills honoured the U-20 team players with a car each after winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009, I got a call from Archie and he told me to expect a call soon from Randy as they had given me an invitation to the Black Stars for the 2010 AFCON.
“He told me to pay back since I have been given the chance to represent Ghana because that is how it is done at the Black Stars.
“Archie called me severally when we returned from the tournament demanding the agreed money”, he added.
Ransford Osei expressed his disappointment in Fred Archie since he has had so many good moments with him.
“I went with him to Israel and signed with Maccabi Haifa in 2008 and I also went to Manchester City with him as hell we enjoyed a very good moment together so I didn’t expect him to do that.
“He destroyed my career”, added Ransford.
Ransford Osei was part of the Black Stars team that finished as runner-up in the 2010 AFCON in Angola.
Fredrick Acheampong, popularly known in the Ghanaian media and the sports fraternity as Fres Archie has yet to respond to this allegation.
