La Liga side Real Betis have submitted a formal €4 million offer for highly-rated Ghanaian defender Jonas Adjei Adjetey, as they look to strengthen their backline ahead of the upcoming season.
The 21-year-old centre-back has enjoyed a breakout campaign with Swiss champions FC Basel, playing a pivotal role in their successful title run. Since joining the club from Berekum Chelsea in 2022, Adjetey has become a defensive mainstay, making over 30 appearances across all competitions this season. His calmness under pressure, dominance in the air, and strong positional sense have earned plaudits from coaches and scouts alike.
Adjetey capped off his impressive season with a full 90-minute display in Basel’s commanding 4-0 win over Luzern on the final day, a result that sealed the club’s 12th Swiss Super League title.
Interest in the Ghanaian defender has surged in recent months, with several European clubs monitoring his progress. Premier League side Brentford are also reportedly in the race, but Real Betis are currently leading the pursuit. Sources close to the negotiations reveal that the Spanish club is eager to conclude a deal swiftly and views Adjetey as a long-term investment for their defensive unit.
Despite his standout performances in Switzerland, Adjetey was surprisingly omitted from Otto Addo’s latest Black Stars squad for the Unity Cup in the UK. However, a move to one of Europe’s top leagues could significantly enhance his prospects for future national team inclusion.
As discussions continue, Adjetey’s potential switch to La Liga could mark the next major step in the career of one of Ghana’s most promising young defenders.
