Brahim Díaz, seeking a new international path, is in the process of acquiring Moroccan nationality, signaling a potential shift toward joining the Atlas Lions squad.
The 24-year-old midfielder, having faced hurdles in his bid to represent Spain, is now exploring the option of donning the Moroccan jersey.
Despite his previous involvement with Spanish national teams at various levels, Díaz, holding dual citizenship, is considering a switch to Morocco, owing to his grandmother’s Moroccan ancestry.
FIFA regulations allow players with dual nationality to change their allegiance under certain conditions, including limitations on senior appearances made before the age of 21 and a three-year hiatus from representing their former national team.
With familial ties to Morocco through his grandmother, Díaz’s eligibility for dual nationality opens doors for him to represent the North African nation.
Sources indicate that an official announcement regarding Díaz’s decision is imminent in the coming weeks. The talented midfielder has showcased his best form this season with Real Madrid, solidifying his status as a key player for the club.
Morocco’s pursuit of Díaz dates back to 2018 when they initially approached him to join their World Cup squad.
