Ghana’s head coach, Chris Hughton, and his coaching staff are facing frustration and discontent from players as poor camping facilities disrupt the team’s preparations just 11 days before the commencement of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, according to a report filed by Ghanasocernet.com.
Initially planning to camp in South Africa, the Black Stars shifted their base to Kumasi at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. This decision, however, has backfired, with players expressing anger over the deplorable state of the training pitch and overall camp conditions.
The abrupt change in the camping base was prompted by the unsuitability of the Baba Yara Stadium’s pitch, intended for the team’s first training session. Unfortunately, upon inspection, it was deemed unplayable, forcing a last-minute relocation.
Despite the challenges, the Black Stars remain committed to their preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations.
However, the suboptimal training conditions have heightened the frustration among players and the coaching staff, emphasizing the crucial need for suitable facilities to ensure optimal performance in the upcoming tournament.
