Black Stars coach Otto Addo has reportedly named Libyan-based striker Jonathan Sowah in his squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic.
The former Medeama SC striker, who was part of Ghana’s AFCON squad, missed the team’s international friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda but has been selected for the crucial World Cup qualifiers.
Sowah joined Al Nasr Benghazi in Libya after impressing many football enthusiasts in the Ghanaian top-flight and the group stage matches of the CAF Champions League for Medeama SC. He has featured in six games with five goals in the Libyan Premier League, making him the club’s joint top scorer in the ongoing campaign.
His impressive form in the Ghana Premier League last season earned him a spot in Ghana’s final squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, although the team was eliminated in the group stage. He made his competitive debut for the Black Stars during the World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Comoros, which ended in a 1-0 defeat.
Coach Otto Addo is expected to announce his squad for the upcoming games against Mali and Central African Republic next week, according to reports. Ghana will travel to Bamako on June 6 to face the Eagles of Mali before playing the Central African Republic four days later in Kumasi.
