The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially approved the appointment of German coach Winfried Schäfer as the new technical advisor for the Black Stars, following a recommendation from the Executive Committee, Kickgh.com has learned.
According to Kumasi-based Pure FM, Schäfer will earn a substantial monthly salary of $65,000. However, his appointment has left many Ghanaians seeking clarity on the contract terms agreed upon between the GFA and his representatives.
Schäfer will work alongside a newly assembled technical team, which includes psychologist Kris Perquy, video analyst Gregory De Grauwe, and Black Satellites coach Desmond Ofei, who replaces Joseph Laumann as first-team assistant coach.
Following Ghana’s failure to qualify for AFCON 2025, the Black Stars will now shift their focus to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Currently second in Group I with nine points, Ghana is set to face Chad and Madagascar in crucial matches when the qualifiers resume in March.
