Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah was advised not to wear the number ten shirt, Ghana FA executive Council member Dr. Randy Abbey, has revealed.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show, the former GFA Communications Director revealed that Stephen Appiah was urged not to wear the jersey owing to fears that the number will be cursed.
He went on to say that Appiah ignored the warning and went on to score a brace in the game.
“The first time Stephen Appiah wore the number 10 jersey was against South Africa in Kumasi. He was advised by people not to wear for some of the reasons. He defied it and scored two goals in that game. He wore the jersey till he retired,” he noted.
Randy Abbey and his guests were talking about the possible use of juju in the Black Stars’ 2021 Africa Cup of Nations camp.
Randy, who denied any knowledge of such activities in the Stars camp, suggested that the players be evaluated by a psychologist.
“There is also the need for some psychological help because even if you think its unfounded, it is also a belief that has been developed,” he said.
Conversations in the aftermath of the 2021 AFCON have centered on the Black Stars’ alleged use of voodooism.
Some members of the team are said to have engaged in the act during the tournament, causing problems for others.
According to rumors, certain players discussed the problem with then-coach Milovan Rajevac and threatened to leave camp.
