Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro, the rising star in the realm of goalkeeping, transitioned from DVC Buiksloot to the esteemed AZ Alkmaar academy, commencing his journey at the under-12 level.

Signing his first professional contract on October 2, 2020, he committed to AZ until the culmination of the 2022–23 season. His prowess shone brightly as AZ’s under-18 side secured a remarkable league and cup double in the 2021–22 season.

Heralded as a “wonderkid” in the football management game Football Manager by esteemed sources such as Goal, SPORTbible, and Planet Football in 2022, Owusu-Oduro became a name to watch.

Professional Milestones

Making his Eerste Divisie debut on August 26, 2022, against FC Eindhoven, he left an indelible mark. On April 21, 2023, his heroics included saving two penalties in a shoot-out against Sporting Lisbon, propelling AZ to the final of the 2022-23 UEFA Youth League. Starting in the final against Hajduk Split, he contributed to AZ’s resounding 5-0 victory. The next chapter unfolded on December 14, 2023, when he made his first-team debut for AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa Conference League clash against Legia Warsaw.

Securing his football future, Owusu-Oduro recently inked a two-year contract extension with Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar, pledging his allegiance until the summer of 2026.

Venturing onto the international stage, Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro showcased his prowess with a notable contribution to the Netherlands national under-20 football team’s 2-1 victory over the France national under-20 football team on March 25, 2023.
