Richard Boadu, former captain of Asante Kotoko, has expressed his eagerness to represent the Black Stars, stating that it would be a dream come true for him.
Currently playing for Al Ahli Benghazi in the Libyan topflight league, Boadu has been performing exceptionally well and has become a fan favorite at the Martyrs of February Stadium. He has been a consistent presence in the team, featuring in almost all of their matches, including the CAF Champions League qualifiers.
In a recent interview, Boadu mentioned that the unwavering support from Ghanaians motivates him to strive for a spot in the national team. He emphasized his desire to experience the joy of playing for the Black Stars and hopes that his dream will be fulfilled one day.
“My dream is to play for the Black Stars and that also inspires me to work harder. I always get excited when I watch Black Stars games considering the support from Ghanaians and others. There is always joy when you play for the national and I wish I can experience it one day”
Boadu also highlighted the fact that many of his teammates who play for the Libya national team leave for international duty, leaving him feeling unfulfilled. Despite acknowledging the difference in player quality between Libya and Ghana, Boadu remains hopeful and prays that his dream will come true.
“Eight of my teammates who command starting roles play for the Libya national team and anytime they leave for national assignment, you become unfulfilled. In terms of players, you can’t compare Libya to Ghana but it is my dream to play for the national. I pray my dream is fulfilled” he added.
Currently, Al Ahli Benghazi holds the third position in the Libyan Premier League table, with ten points from four matches and one more game to go.
Boadu is expected to play a significant role in their upcoming match against Al Nasr on December 16, 2023.
