Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie has stirred debate after questioning the decision to reward Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare with a car valued at $38,000 and $5,000 in cash.
Speaking in an interview, Afriyie argued that the recognition should have gone to Salim Adams, whom he believes made a greater contribution to the national team.
“I don’t understand why Benjamin Asare received a $38,000 car and $5,000. Salim Adams deserved it more. Asare did nothing extraordinary,” Afriyie said.
His comments have generated mixed reactions among Ghanaian football fans, with some supporting his view while others have defended Asare’s performances and contribution to the Black Stars.
Benjamin Asare was rewarded following Ghana’s recent campaign, but Afriyie believes Salim Adams’ displays merited greater recognition.
The remarks are expected to fuel further discussion over how individual performances in the national team are assessed and rewarded.
