Things are simply in disarray for the Indomitable Lions as they have struggled before the AFCON and in their two games played in the AFCON so far.
Cameroon were outplayed and beaten 3-1 by Senegal in their second group game. The defeat has put Cameroon in a precarious position to qualify for the knockout phase.
Cameroon also played the entire second half with a man advantage against The Gambia yet couldn’t beat the Scorpions as they drew 1-1 in their opening game of the AFCON.
The president of the Cameroonian Football Association, Samuel Eto’o is furious and disappointed with the commitment shown by the boys so far in the AFCON.
Eto’o told the players when addressing them in their defeat against Senegal of his plans to test them before giving call-ups.
“We are going to do a patriotism test before having young Cameroonians play in the National team”, said Samuel Eto’o.
Of the 11 players that Rigobert Song started against Senegal, 6 were born in Cameroon. Andre Onana, Yvan Neyou, Nouhou Tolo, Zambo Anguissa, Olivier Kemen and Moumi Ngamaleu were all born in Cameroon.
Five of the starting 11 were born in France. Jean Castelleto, Christopher Wooh, Enzo Tchato, Kevin Nkoudou and Frank Magri all have switched nationalities.
This is a huge concern for Cameroonian football as Samuel Eto’o doubt the commitment of some of the players.
Cameroon has to beat the Gambia and hope that results elsewhere will go in their favour before they can qualify for the knockout phase.
