South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has unveiled his final 25-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, blending experienced campaigners with exciting new talent.
Two uncapped players make their debut call-ups: centre-back Tylon Smith of English Championship side Queens Park Rangers, and Shandre Campbell, a Club Brugge winger who has featured in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
“We have to look to the future as well and include players who can train with us and get a feel for the national team,” Broos explained, adding that only minor adjustments are expected to this squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The squad also sees the return of Elias Mokwana, currently playing in Saudi Arabia, while Burnley forward Lyle Foster earns a place. Mamelodi Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners is among three players named on standby. Meanwhile, Themba Zwane misses out as he recovers from injury, and Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi is also absent.
The final list features nine players from Orlando Pirates and five from Mamelodi Sundowns. South Africa has been drawn in Group B alongside Angola, Egypt, and Zimbabwe, beginning their AFCON campaign on December 22 against Angola.
