Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert has explained that Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer’s age and development stage were key factors behind the club’s decision to sign the Ghana international.
The 24-year-old forward joined Mainz on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at Hamburger SV.
Bungert described the striker’s age as “excellent,” stressing that Mainz were pleased to secure a player who still has room for growth while already possessing top-flight experience.
“At 24, Ransford is at an excellent age and we’re very pleased that we were able to convince him to take the next steps in his career with us at Mainz 05,” he said.
Königsdörffer featured in 33 Bundesliga matches last season, scoring five goals as Hamburg retained their top-flight status.
Mainz believe his pace, physicality, and consistency make him a strong fit for their attacking system as they continue to build a squad blending experience with long-term potential.
