Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has revealed how grateful he is and will always be to Sporting Lisbon.

The red-hot Ghanaian winger has been so sensational in the ongoing English Championship. Speaking in an interview with Leicester City, the 19-year-old Ghanaian forward expressed his delight in joining Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.

“It was a great feeling to join them. This was the moment I was waiting for, to be a professional footballer. It was a chance to go to a different place to play,” said Fatawu Issahaku.

The Tamale-born who began his career with Steadfast in 2019 before moving to Dreams FC was always going to be a hit because he had enormous talent.

In 2022, Portuguese giants Sporting CP, who has a track record for nurturing wonderful talents like Louis Figo, Christiano Ronaldo and Louis Nani came calling. Dreams FC and Fatawu’s entourage couldn’t resist the offer and sold him to Portugal.

“It was a very good opportunity for me. When I went there, it was good. Sometimes the weather and other things were different, but I had a good feeling about it. It was a bit colder than I was used to,” added Issahaku. Change of weather, food and environment normally becomes a problem for youngsters when they move outside their comfortable abode.

“Coming from Ghana, it’s different. Now, being in England, I think that the weather in Portugal is okay! Sporting is something that made me who I am now. They have helped me with everything,” revealed Issahaku.

The on-loan Sporting CP winger is enjoying his days in England as he has been a constant menace to opposition defenders in the English Championship.

“It was just a good opportunity for me. I liked how I was playing. I got more opportunities to play in the Champions League and Europa League, which was amazing for me.

Fatawu made just 6 appearances for Sporting Lisbon before joining Leicester City. He has made 24 appearances in the Championship having scored two goals and assisted other players 8 times.

“I played against some big clubs and it’s something big for me. Sporting gave me opportunities to be who I am now,” concluded Issahaku. The 19-year-old showed immense appreciation to Sporting Lisbon for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity they have given him.

Fatawu Issahaku will likely be playing in the English Premier League next season with his Leicester City being unstoppable in the Championship as they lead 2nd place Southampton by 11 points after 30 matches played.
