Ghanaian captain Andre Ayew has clinched the prestigious goal of the month award for January in the French Ligue 1.
Ayew’s remarkable achievement came after he scored a breathtaking bicycle kick during his return to club football, as Le Havre played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Lorient last month.
Following a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign with the Black Stars, the seasoned Ghanaian attacker delivered a stellar performance by netting a brace to salvage a crucial point for his team in the late January clash.
Introduced as a substitute in the 70th minute, Ayew showcased his prowess by finding the back of the net twice in the dying moments of the game, securing a valuable draw for Le Havre.
The encounter at the Stade du Moustoir – Yves Allainmat saw the visitors take the lead through Emmanuel Sabbi’s penalty in the 15th minute, countered by Imran Louz’s equalizer before halftime.
Lorient surged ahead in the second half with Ayman Kari’s goal in the 51st minute, only for Ayew to restore parity once more in the 85th minute with a clinical finish.
Despite Mohamed Bamba’s late goal seemingly sealing victory for the hosts in the 92nd minute, Ayew’s resilience shone through as he struck again in the 94th minute to salvage a well-deserved draw for Le Havre.
