Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has announced that the Black Stars will engage in additional international friendly matches in May and June as part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana, who have secured a place at the global tournament to be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico, are already scheduled to take on Austria and Germany in March as part of their early build-up.
Providing an update in an interview with Asempa FM, Adams disclosed that more preparatory matches have been arranged later in the year to help the technical team fine-tune the squad before the competition begins.
According to the Buem Member of Parliament, the extra fixtures will come after the March friendlies and are intended to give the team adequate preparation time and competitive rhythm heading into the World Cup.
“The Black Stars will play additional friendlies in May and June, after the matches against Austria and Germany, as part of our preparations for the World Cup,” Adams stated.
Ghana have been placed in Group L for the tournament and will kick off their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto. They will then face England on June 23 in Boston before concluding the group phase against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
Having suffered group-stage eliminations in both the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 edition in Qatar, the four-time African champions will be aiming to deliver a stronger performance and progress further when they return to football’s biggest stage in 2026.
