Youth and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif (Hon.) has commended the Ghana Football Association for introducing the Catch Them Young Referee policy.

The Yabaga-Kubore law maker was speaking at the 29th ordinary session of congress at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on Monday, July 10, 2023.

‘’Mr. Chairman, let me congratulate the GFA for initiating the “Catch Them Young Refereeing” policy to train and instill discipline in young and upcoming referees. This move is commendable’’ the law-maker asserted.

The Catch Them Young Policy is an initiative designed to identify, educate and train young talents between the ages of 13-18 to officiate Juvenile/Colts matches within their regions. But the policy has produced some amazing young referees within the last three and half years.

These young referees currently officiate matches in the Division One League Super Cup, the Regional Women’s Division One, the Women’s League play-offs, the KGL Foundation U-17 Champions League and the Women’s Premier League.

So far, the Ghana Football Association has successfully trained One Thousand Nine Hundred and Forty-one (1941) across the 10-football regions through the Referees Manager, the Regional instructors and trainers.
