Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams says Ghana has the capacity to co-host a future FIFA World Cup alongside Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, urging government to begin laying the groundwork for such a major bid.
He noted that FIFA is increasingly favouring multi-country hosting arrangements, citing the upcoming World Cup involving the United States, Mexico and Canada, as well as the 2030 tournament set to be shared by Morocco, Spain and Portugal.
According to the Minister, this trend presents a significant opportunity for West Africa. He explained that Ghana, Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire already have strong foundations to build upon, especially with Côte d’Ivoire’s major infrastructural investments during the hosting of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
He believes the three nations can form a unified front to pursue hosting rights in the future, pointing out that all have substantial experience in organising major sporting events. Ghana’s most recent was the 2023 African Games, held in 2024.
Kofi Adams encouraged stakeholders to begin early planning, stressing that a joint bid would not only be possible but beneficial for the region.
